More mobile video being watched

Almost a quarter of the time spent online by mobile Internet users in the USA is used to watch video, according to survey firm Ipsos.

A study carried out in the second quarter of 2013 found the time spent watching video has gone up substantially, from 15% a year ago, to 22% now.

That includes video stored on mobiles, time-shifted programming as well as on-demand. Over half of consumers have watched online video through a free video streaming website and more than one-fifth have watched it via a paid subscription service.

Tablets continue to increase in popularity with 34% of people now owning one, up from 21%; smartphone ownership has also hit a new high of 61%, up from 51%.
