Stand by us, insists YouTube

The unfortunately spam-plagued new YouTube comments system will get better, according to developers at the website.

They’ve issued a blog update acknowledging problems such as ASCII art spam, bad links and impersonation attempts. YouTube says it’s “working hard to combat the increase” and that the spam made the new system hard to use.

(Sadly, they still apparently fail to appreciate that many video creators still have absolutely no interest in Google+ or wish to have to work around its convoluted structure just to post or reply to comments)

In the meantime, YouTube says it will make more improvements to comment management including bulk management “coming soon”. Improvements to comment ranking and moderation of old-style comments is also on the cards.

Seems to us the dust has a long way to settle yet…
