Flickr revamp offers video updates

Alongside Yahoo’s announcement today of its purchase of blogsite Tumblr comes news that its other social property, the photo-sharing website Flickr, is to be upgraded – and that includes tweaks to its video hosting.

With individual accounts now offering a terabyte of free storage (they say that’s equivalent to a photo every hour for forty years), the company has blogged that 1080p (Full HD) videos up to a whopping – wait for it – three minutes duration can now be uploaded, up to that terabyte storage limit.

Flickr has never been any real rival to dedicated offerings such as YouTube, Vimeo (and many others) and clearly the latest enhancement won’t change that but for the avid photographer it could be welcome.

A new Android app version of the site has also been released alongside a new interface.
