Impact resistant camcorders launched
Designed apparently for clumsy clots who drop their precious electronics at every turn, two new camcorders from JVC are promising to be waterproof, drop-proof, cold-proof and dust-proof – at least to a degree.
The almost identical GZ-R70 and GZ-R10 differ only colours and internal storage capacity, and the former boasts an inbuilt LED light.
JVC says the two have water resistance to a depth of 5m (16.4ft), can withstand a drop from 1.5m (4.9ft), can cope with temperatures down to -10°C (14°F) as well as being dustproof to the IP5X standard. To this end they have an internal battery promising a 4.5 hour life.
Other features are a 40x optical zoom (with 60x digital maintaining full HD resolution due to the 2.5Mpx sensor), image stabilisation and a 3-inch touchscreen. Storage is to SDHC or SDXC with files recorded in 1920×1080 AVCHD at 24Mbps.
