Vegas gets Universe to play with

Software developer Red Giant has announced an update to its (mostly) subscription-based effects suite, Universe.

The 1.2 version includes 9 new effects as well as – drum roll please – support for Sony Vegas Pro. Supposedly. (We were on the Beta trial and the installer steadfastly refused to load anything for Vegas. No response from Red Giant’s developer team to our support ticket either, alas. Presumably fixed now that it’s been properly released, we assume.)

You don’t have to pay for Universe – there’s a free version with 37 effects and transitions. If you want the best toys in your toolbox though you’ll need to shell out, for which you gain 31 GPU-accelerated tools.

It also works on After Effects, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and Motion on Mac OS X and Windows.
